> Xml Export, Mac Option

Hi There,

I am investigating the use of your software for my school. The XML export function seems to be broken in that, when exporting a Spanish test, all the accented characters are exported as #x00f3; or similar.

Obviously this makes the export a little tough to deal with.

I'm on a Mac, and we're hoping to use this to export questions into Moodle.

Thanks,
A.J.

When exporting to XML special characters, such as accented characters, are exported as code rather than the actual symbols.

#x00f3 = ó

XML uses Unicode for character encoding, and ExamView follows this standard. The example you provided was character code F3 (hexadecimal). This is the Unicode character code for LATIN SMALL LETTER O WITH ACUTE as documented here:

http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0080.pdf

If Moodle is able to import XML, it should have no problem dealing with the characters generated by ExamView. However, if Moodle is expecting a different format (e.g., text file), you'll need to find a way to translate the XML to whatever format Moodle is expecting.

Several Moodle developers were, at one point, working on an import feature for Moodle that would accept ExamView XML as input. I'm not sure about the status of that project, but you might try searching Google for more information.

Thank you for your response,

Moodle does, in fact, import your XML export, and it works properly in most cases except for these accented characters.

I will pass this info over to the moodle support boards and see if they can help.

Also, I've seen other posts here asking for Blackboard/WebCT export from the Mac version of ExamView... this would also be wonderful for us since Moodle imports both Blackboard and WebCT formatted files.

Thanks again,
A.J.
