When is there or is there going to be the ability to take ExamView 5.0 data and import it into Moodle? There was a utility for converting 4.0 questions into Moodle. I am hoping that there will be more under 5.0

The import utility used for Moodle was not created by FSCreations. It was created by an outside resource for Moodle. You will need to check the Moodle message board to see if they are planning an import utility for version 5.0.
P.S. We would be happy to support their efforts in any way we can. |

It was all working relatively easily for me after I learned how to export to XML. The Moodle software was importing from the result XML file as long as I was careful to not have any italics and put a \ in front of all single quotes.
Now the XML export capability is gone!!!! I went back and attempted the export to both versions of both Blackboard and WebCT files, and nothing imports properly to Moodle. The xml was soooo simple. Why was the xml export taken away? Now I have a nice VB book with questions that I cannot get into Moodle.... I am installing the bb export update just in case it fixes something... (sigh) Is there any way to export to xml? |

ExamView was one of the selling points on my last textbook adoption. We just added a Moodle server last spring and it has been nice using ExamView 4.0.8 to load my practice tests and actual tests on the moodle. Now it is my understanding that I will have to pay extra for that for my next adoption? Doesn't FSCreations receive money from the publisher to use the software? Why do I have to buy the ExamView from the publisher then pay extra so that I can use it with Moodle?
I have been very happy with ExamView, but this is very disappointing. |

The XML export function is no longer available in ExamView. We removed the XML export capability because so many systems were advertising support for ExamView content but doing a terrible job of displaying it--which reflected poorly on us. An 'Export to Moodle' option is on the feature wish-list that we evaluate with each update. In the meantime, you can use the existing Blackboard export format to upload your ExamView content to Moodle. Please see the threads listed in the LMS sub-forum for detailed instructions.

I see the Export to Moodle wish list statement on several posts. Any progress with that yet? I can use the BB files to import questions to Moodle, but it's a tedious process to work with the images. Will your Export to Moodle include the images? Please move this from the wish list to the to do list.

Found this on the Moodle website:
Re: ExamView 5.2 XML Export to Moodle Works! by Dianne S - Wednesday, December 6, 2006, 09:16 AM Kam --- There must have been a communication misunderstanding when you spoke to our Support person. I'm the Technical Product Manager who oversaw the ExamView 5.2 point release and I assure you that the feature you describe is only available in the Professional Edition for this version. Moodle support is very much on our feature to-do list. We had originally intended to include it in our January release but had to postpone it due to the large number of other new features we needed to include. I appreciate your enthusiasm for the product and user input is always appreciated. Dianne Well... 18 months later and no Moodle support? What gives? |

With every release of ExamView since version 5.2, improving Moodle support was on our list of desired development enhancements. So far, while this feature has made the short list several times (and even gone so far as some preliminary work) it has had to be postponed due to other priorities in the product roadmap. I can appreciate that this is disappointing for the Moodle community, but I would ask for your patience in this matter.

You know, when everyone says to just export as Blackboard....it doesn't work correctly no matter what combination I use.
I'm disappointed that ExamView has pulled the XML export feature out. I saw one comment said that it didn't work very well for some LMS but I'll tell ya, it worked great for Moodle. Thank goodness I have an older version of ExamView around so I can create my question databases in Moodle but unfortuntely, I am the only one at my school who does. I have to admit, if ExamView didn't come with some of the textbooks, i'd be hard pressed to use it since the feature was pulled. (just my 2 cents....well actually for the amount of time I had to spend on trying to get files imported...i think my 2 cents is worth a lot more!) Sorry have to say it, shame on you for pulling this feature. |

I am a current math teacher and a huge fan of ExamView. I am also a large supporter for Moodle. At a recent math conference Moodle was everywhere. Instructors from around the world are using this powerful free service, and more are joining the fold. I am advocating to both the Fscreations and Moodle community to help bring these great applications together.
I appeal to Fscreations for progress in this area as soon as possible. Thank You Willy Felton |

I really hope that ExamView develops the capability to export to Moodle as well. That feature alone would make it worth getting the next upgrade (currently using 6.2). I am a math teacher so being able to import questions that contained math images, such as graphs and complex formulas would make life a whole lot easier.

Just making sure the message gets out - we're still waiting for a raw XML or Moodle export. I can host the ExamView quizzes online, but get a flood of emails for results - boo! Once the ExamView online test manager was removed, it seems that there should be greater emphasis on supporting other oulets.

I have submitted that XML or Moodle export option as an enhancement request.

I can't say if it will be available in the future or not. Development uses priority and customer feedback to issue software enhancements. We will have to wait and see.
